Doctors Remove 2kg Dumbbell from Man’s Rectum After Bizarre Incident

In an unusual medical case, doctors in Brazil were taken aback when they discovered a 54-year-old man with a 2kg dumbbell lodged in his rectum. The man, who had been suffering from severe stomach pains, nausea, and constipation, initially attempted to remove the object himself but eventually sought medical help at a hospital in Manaus.

Upon examination, surgeons found that the weight could not be removed using traditional tools like tweezers. Instead, they had to perform a “manual extraction,” with one doctor using his forearm to dislodge the dumbbell.

The patient spent three days in the hospital before being discharged in stable condition. Medical experts later confirmed that the incident had a sexual nature, a common factor in cases of rectal foreign objects. The International Journal of Surgery Case Reports noted that while these cases affect both men and women, they are more frequently seen in men, particularly between the ages of 20 and 40.

The journal also emphasized that objects lodged in the rectum often vary in type, with sexual items being the most prevalent, followed by glass objects, which pose additional risks due to their fragility. The experts stressed the importance of careful physical examination in such cases to avoid potential injury and recommended rectal extraction when there is a risk of internal damage.

While this case stands out due to the nature of the object involved, it serves as a reminder of the complexities doctors face in emergency rooms, where unusual incidents are more common than most might imagine.
